With 35 years of licensed experience I've come to believe that most problems brought to counseling are variations of problems in living which we all face.

Our perceptions and reactions to these issues, largely based upon our own personal histories, then determine our responses to these problems. To change our maladaptive habitual patterns usually requires acceptance, observation, practice, repetition, and reinforcement for new patterns to develop. Insight brings an abilty to notice our patterns and processes which can then lead to self directed change.

I would be considered an eclectic therapist who applies whatever technique may be useful to a specific situation. Because most people and issues are different, any specific technique, or theory may not work with all people.
